The Eugene Eagles will face off against the Dixon Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eugene has four straight victories, Dixon has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Eugene beats Dixon with eight runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Eagles walked away with an 8-3 win over Owensville on Thursday.
Chase Richard made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Eugene let Jeffrey Schulte and Drew Hart run wild. Schulte went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles, while Hart went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Hart has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Garet Wood, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Eugene was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Owensville only posted a batting average of .182.
Meanwhile, Dixon didn't have quite enough to beat Camdenton on Monday and fell 12-11.
Eugene pushed their record up to 18-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Dixon, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Eugene took their victory against Dixon in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
