The Westlake Charter Explorers fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the John Adams Academy Patriots on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 83-76 to the Patriots. Westlake Charter was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as John Adams Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played last Friday.
Westlake Charter's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Quinones Fleeton, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Matthew Quilatan who scored 24 points. Jarriel Taylor was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Westlake Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as John Adams Academy only pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.
Isaiah McKee continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for John Adams Academy, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which McKee has scored at least a third of John Adams Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Luciano Allen, who scored 13 points along with six assists and three steals.
Westlake Charter's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-9. As for John Adams Academy, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Westlake Charter will be playing at home against Leroy Greene Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Leroy Greene Academy is ranked 1018th, while Westlake Charter is ranked 1022nd). As for John Adams Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Fortune Early College at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fortune Early College knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven games -- so hopefully John Adams Academy likes a good challenge.
