The Maine West Warriors will square off against the Hersey Huskies at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Maine West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Maine West didn't have quite enough to beat Schaumburg and fell 7-6. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Maine West saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tim Wiley, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that Wiley snagged this season.
Meanwhile, Hersey put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Loyola Academy. Those four runs were actually the fewest the Huskies have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Riley Blackwell looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Charlie Arvanitis was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mike Sokan, who went 3-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.
Hersey pushed their record up to 7-0-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Maine West, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Maine West's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Warriors have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Hersey, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Maine West continue to outrun the ball?
Maine West couldn't quite get it done against Hersey when the teams last played back in April of 2019 as they fell 8-4. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
