The St. James Tigers are taking a road trip to square off against the Owensville Dutchmen at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
St. James fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Stoutland on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (4-3), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Jesse Hudson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out seven batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Hudson was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Hudson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was JV Meurer, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Trevor Mitchell, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Owensville entered their tilt with Linn on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Wildcats.
Jaden Gerlemann was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jansen Loeb was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Owensville now has a winning record of 9-8. As for St. James, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's still a better percentage than their 4-14 record this season.
St. James might still be hurting after the 12-0 defeat they got from Owensville when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
