The Cannon County Lions will take on the Grundy County Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cannon County has four straight victories, Grundy County has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Cannon County's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They breezed past Trousdale County to the tune of 39-0. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven games by 23 points or more so far this season.

Cannon County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Eli Garrett out in front who threw for 269 yards and three TDs while picking up 13.5 yards per attempt. The Lions are 6-1 when Garrett posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Cannon County's leading receiver Miles Alexander was Garrett's top target yet again, picking up 100 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Cannon County proved: they limited Trousdale County to a paltry 2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Zeke Walkup for the heroic effort on defense: he. Cannon County didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.3.
Meanwhile, Grundy County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 17-12 to Jackson County. Despite 137 more yards than the Blue Devils, the Yellowjackets couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Cannon County will have to contain Vince Bryant as he made an impact in Grundy County's last game. He rushed for 148 yards and one score while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. With that strong performance, Bryant is now averaging an impressive 101.1 rushing yards per game.
Grundy County's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Cannon County, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 7-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Cannon County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 149.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Grundy County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 217.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Cannon County strolled past Grundy County in their previous matchup back in September of 2022 by a score of 30-12. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
