Basketball Recap: Terry Sanford Takes a Loss

Terry Sanford fought the good fight in their overtime match against Triton on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Triton Hawks 78-72. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Terry Sanford still got an impressive performance from Gaven Kraut, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Kraut a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamaal Miller, who posted 12 points and three blocks.

Even though they lost, Terry Sanford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Triton only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Triton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ro'Mello Pegues led the charge by going 9 of 13 to rack up 28 points and six rebounds. The game was Pegues' seventh in a row with at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Demarbiaz Devane, who went 9 for 12 en route to 21 points and six boards.

Terry Sanford's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Triton, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-8.

Coming up, Terry Sanford won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against E.E. Smith at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Terry Sanford knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully E.E. Smith likes a good challenge. As for Triton, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Overhills at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Triton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 games.
