The Surprise Valley Hornets pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chester. While losing is never fun, Surprise Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 670th, while Chester is ranked 112th).
Casey Grove and Iina Nabahe-Henry certainly did their best on Thursday to try and avoid the loss. Grove scored 22 points, while Nabahe-Henry scored 22 points. Grove scored a full 39.3% of Surprise Valley's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Paul Bartolo was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Surprise Valley's loss dropped their record down to 1-1-1. As for Chester, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Surprise Valley will face off against Whittell at 1:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Whittell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday. As for Chester, they will take on Plumas Charter at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Plumas Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
