Softball Recap: Clairemont Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Clairemont waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Hilltop Lancers get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. That's more bragging rights for the Chieftains, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Deveraux Benjamin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Clairemont got a massive performance out of Camryn Walton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Walton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maelea Silao, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Clairemont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Clairemont's record now sits at 7-9. As for Hilltop, they dropped their record down to 3-10-1 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Clairemont will venture away from home to face off against Academy of Our Lady of Peace at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hilltop, they will head out to challenge Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 9.8 runs per game this season.
