James Academy of Excellence's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while Atherton is ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grace M. James Academy of Excellence found their leader in underclassman Alicea Mangrum, who scored 27 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mangrum has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Mosley, who scored nine points.
Grace M. James Academy of Excellence's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Atherton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.
Grace M. James Academy of Excellence's road trip will continue as they head out to face Holy Cross at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. Holy Cross is coming into the contest with five straight victories at home, so Grace M. James Academy of Excellence is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Atherton will take on Seneca at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Atherton has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Seneca will arrive with five straight victories.
