Fredonia has gone 5-0 against Frewsburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Fredonia Hillbillies will take on the Frewsburg Bears at 12:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Fredonia turned things around against Dunkirk last Thursday. Everything went their way against the Marauders as they made off with a 74-53 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Hillbillies have posted since December 9, 2024.
Fredonia's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ashton Putney led the charge by going 6 for 9 en route to 17 points. Donovan Dowdy was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 15 points and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Frewsburg didn't have too much trouble with Portville on Thursday as they won 57-41.
Frewsburg had a senior duo take command as Blake Weaver posted 11 points in addition to six boards and six steals and Kael Collver dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Collver has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Trent Lewis, who earned nine points and five assists.
Frewsburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.
Frewsburg's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Fredonia, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Fredonia has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Frewsburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Fredonia strolled past Frewsburg in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 67-50. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Frewsburg's Gavin Smith, who went 7 for 17 en route to 24 points and five rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Monday, will it be easier for Fredonia to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
