Pearl River has gone a perfect 3-0 against Ursuline Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Rebels are taking a road trip to square off against the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Pearl River is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Pearl River was able to grind out a solid victory over Fisher, taking the game 11-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rebels.
Riley Falcon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Pearl River let Mylee Elsensohn and Laikyn Jeffries run wild. Elsensohn went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Jeffries scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. What's more, Jeffries posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emersen Blanchard, who went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Ursuline Academy fell victim to Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Swamp Owls, falling 16-0. The Lions have struggled against the Swamp Owls recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Ursuline Academy's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Pearl River, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pearl River hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .344. However, it's not like Ursuline Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Pearl River's way against Ursuline Academy in their previous meeting back in February, as Pearl River made off with a 16-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
