Grace Arrington was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
Arrington wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nehir Volkan, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, East Chapel Hill got themselves on the board against Hillside on Friday, but Hillside never followed suit. They blew past the Hornets 18-0. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won six games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Lauren Steiner was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Tesla Goldstein was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
East Chapel Hill was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
East Chapel Hill is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Riverside-Durham, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Riverside-Durham has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like East Chapel Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Riverside-Durham might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from East Chapel Hill in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Pirates have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
