The Tempe Prep Knights will take on the Phoenix Country Day Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Tempe Prep's last matchup with Heritage Academy could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Monday. The Knights lost 8-2 to the Heroes.
Tempe Prep got a good showing from Nathaniel Gastelo, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Tempe Prep saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Farley, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Farley also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Phoenix Country Day unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Soren Etheridge was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Phoenix Country Day is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-6 otherwise. Etheridge was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Phoenix Country Day's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Tempe Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tempe Prep has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Phoenix Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
