Baseball Recap: Weedsport's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Weedsport had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Cato-Meridian Blue Devils on Friday. The Wolverines' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Nico Giacolone was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). Giacolone was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Seward, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Patrick Whitman, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Weedsport's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Cato-Meridian, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Weedsport will be playing in front of their home fans against Central at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Cato-Meridian, they will square off against Pulaski at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
