The Clemson Tigers picked up one of the top recruits from South Carolina over
the weekend when Marlboro County linebacker
Lateek Townsend chose the
Tigers over South Carolina and LSU.
Townsend made the decision during the broadcast of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and on national TV.
With
the three hats lined up on a table, Townsend thanked a lot of people
during a quick speech and then picked up the orange hat and stuck it on
his head.
"I just hope he doesn't waver back and forth and sticks
with his commitment," his high school coach, Dean Boyd, told the
Florence Morning News. "He had been strong with Clemson all along. It's
a good move for him. Either (Clemson or USC) would have been a good one."
Townsend
finished the season with 134 tackles and 11 sacks. He also played in
the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas, where he had four tackles, a sack, a
tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry and 71 all-purpose yards, mostly
as a running back.
