The Greene Central Rams and the South Central Falcons will round out the year against one another at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
South Central will be up against a hot Greene Central team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2025 than the 77-45 stomp they got against Ayden - Grifton. The score was close at halftime, but the Rams pulled away in the second half with 43 points.
Greene Central can attribute much of their success to Kam Tyson, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 11 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, and Josh Cetnar, who shot 58% from the field en route to 19 points. Cetnar also put up a block, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sam Avent, who posted 11 points.
Greene Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.
Meanwhile, South Central was fully in charge on Saturday, breezing past North Pitt 63-36. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Falcons' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while the Panthers are ranked 400th).
South Central's win came from a few key players that Greene Central will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jayden Mabine, who shot 63% from the field on his way to 16 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Blo, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 14 points.
Greene Central's record now sits at 6-0. As for South Central, their record is now 5-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest-scoring teams around. Greene Central hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 68.3 points per game. However, it's not like South Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 70.1 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can put up more.
Greene Central strolled past South Central when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a score of 54-36. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
