This season hasn't been kind to the Houlka Wildcats, who are still winless after their 21st contest. They were the victim of a rough 48-26 loss at the hands of Smithville on Tuesday. Houlka has not had much luck with the Seminoles recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Houlka's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Olivia Halford, who scored 15 points, and Madison Martin who scored two points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Mikayla Wall was her usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds for Smithville. Another player making a difference was Mary Haley Hood, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Houlka dropped their record down to 0-21 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Smithville, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-16 record this season.
Houlka and the Cougars will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. South Pontotoc presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wildcats in Mississippi (the Cougars are ranked 57th, while the Wildcats are ranked 299th). As for Smithville, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m.
