After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Central, the Davenport Broncos were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. They secured a 48-42 W over Lake Wales. This was payback for Davenport, who suffered a 47-37 loss the last time these two teams met.
Sorayah Emilien continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 22 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Davenport's points. Another player making a difference was Destiny Kim, who scored ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Lake Wales lost, one person who can't be blamed is Vanessa Squire. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Squire is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tania Williams, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Davenport's victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Lake Wales, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Davenport will play host again and welcome Mater Brighton Lakes Academy, where tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mater Brighton Lakes Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last eight games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. Lake Wales won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lakeland at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Lakeland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 447th, while Lake Wales is ranked 139th).
