The Cairo Pilots suffered their biggest defeat since December 14, 2023 on Saturday. They were beaten by Massac County 76-40. Cairo has struggled against Massac County recently, as their match on Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Cairo's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vance Tuck, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamron Jenkins, who scored 11 points.
Massac County had a senior duo take command as Isaac Hosman dropped a triple-double on 23 points, 13 rebounds, and ten assists and Will Harmon scored 23 points along with five assists. Harmon hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. Jack Turner was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Cairo dropped their record down to 7-15 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Massac County, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.
Cairo will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Anna-Jonesboro at 6:15 p.m. Anna-Jonesboro presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cairo in Illinois (Anna-Jonesboro is ranked 271st, while Cairo is ranked 617th). As for Massac County, Massac County and Carbondale will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
