Lewiston is a perfect 10-0 against Sandpoint since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Bengals will host the Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Sandpoint will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Lewiston extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Bengals were the clear victors by a 23-5 margin over Moscow. 23 seems to be a good number for the Bengals as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Lewiston got a massive performance out of Mayonna Miller, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs Miller has posted since back in April of 2024. Shelby Arellano was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Lewiston lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They are 2-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sandpoint). They put the hurt on Bonners Ferry with a sharp 13-3 victory last Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Badgers: they've now won five in a row.
Arah Stevens was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.
The victory got Lewiston back to even at 10-10. As for Sandpoint, their win bumped their record up to 3-13.
Sandpoint's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lewiston has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Sandpoint, though, as they've been averaging 11.7 hits. Given Lewiston's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Lewiston took their victory against Sandpoint in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 10-2 score. Will the Bengals repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
