If the Williston Red Devils were feeling good off their 66-5 takedown of the North Marion Colts on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Williston took a 52-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Trenton on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Williston can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Trenton is ranked 110th).
Despite the loss, Williston saw an underclassman step up: Kaelynn Brown scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals. The contest was Brown's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kierce Solomon , who scored 9 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Even though they lost, Williston were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trenton only pulled down ten.
Trenton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nyima Gillyard, who scored 14 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gillyard has scored at least 25% of Trenton's points. Koi Perry was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
Williston's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Trenton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Williston will take on Lake Weir at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Weir comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Trenton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bell's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Trenton's offense will have their work cut out for Trenton.
