Baseball Recap: Tradition Prep Triumphs

Tradition Prep proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Bayside Bears. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pirates have posted since April 19, 2024.

Pablo Almonte made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Almonte wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jack Greene, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Greene is becoming a predictor of Tradition Prep's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-7-1 when he doesn't). Aliet Garcia was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Tradition Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win got Tradition Prep back to even at 7-7-1. As for Bayside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-7.

Looking ahead, Tradition Prep will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Worth at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pirates are facing the Trojans at the right time seeing as the Trojans are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Bayside, they are taking a road trip to challenge Melbourne Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bears 3.9, the Hustlers 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
