The Floresville Tigers had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They took down Gregory-Portland 51-37. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, as Floresville did.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Floresville to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amariah Ruiz, who scored 11 points along with six steals. Ruiz continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenzie Huron, who scored 14 points.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bella Davis, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Davis scored a full 32.4% of Gregory-Portland's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Brittney Chapman was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Floresville's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Gregory-Portland, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.
Floresville will head out on the road to face off against Somerset at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Somerset will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1149th, while Floresville is ranked 438th). Gregory-Portland will be home for the holidays to greet Aransas Pass at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Aransas Pass is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
