The Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes will venture away from home to take on the Moriarty Pintos at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Pojoaque Valley is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Pojoaque Valley is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 12 runs on Saturday, they were much more limited against Taos on Saturday. They lost 12-2 to the Tigers.
Pojoaque Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Torres, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Andres Trevizo was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Moriarty ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They won by a run and slipped past Espanola Valley 18-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pintos have posted against the Sundevils since April 26, 2023.
Raiden Scribner was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. He has become a key player for Moriarty: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Pacheco, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Moriarty always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Moriarty is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Pojoaque Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-18.
Pojoaque Valley suffered a grim 20-8 defeat to Moriarty in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Elks/Elkettes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
