Softball Recap: Oregon Takes a Loss

Oregon extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 18-8 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Dixon Dukes & Duchesses. The Hawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Dukes & Duchesses earlier this season, when they won 6-1.

Isabelle Berg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Olivia Ortega was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Shaffer, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

As for Dixon, they now have a winning record of 8-7. The game was the first time they have beaten Oregon on their field since April 5, 2022.

On Dixon's side, Allie Abell made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned runs off ten hits. Abell was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Bailey Tegeler was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Breanna Tegeler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Oregon is set to take on their familiar foe North Boone at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Dixon will face off against rival Rock Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
