Lytle and Hondo are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but likely not for long. The Pirates will challenge the Owls at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lytle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Lytle came up short against Dilley and fell 8-3. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mikailah Mejia made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Hondo gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. Everything went their way against Crystal City as they made off with a 14-4 win. The Owls might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Myia Lathe, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xevi Hernandez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Hondo lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Hondo is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Lytle, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8-2.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lytle has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've averaged .472. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lytle came up short against Hondo in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, falling 13-8. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
