Civic Memorial had to hit the road for their first game and  it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They received a  blow  on Friday as they fell  35-21 to Newton. Sadly, the  defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it eight in a row.
 Civic Memorial's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was   Luke Clouser, who threw for 142 yards and two  TDs, and also rushed for 85 yards on only 12 carries.  Evan Spurgeon was another key rusher, rushing for 79 yards and one  touchdown.
 Both  teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Civic Memorial will square off against East Alton-Wood River at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. As for Newton, they will take on Wesclin at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday.
