Basketball Recap: Cane Bay Beats Sumter for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Cane Bay waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They walked away with a 54-46 victory over the Sumter Gamecocks. For the Cobras, this counts as revenge for the 59-44 win the Gamecocks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Leading Cane Bay to victory were Kevin Dukes and Amare Merrell. Dukes almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine boards, while Merrell posted eight points. That's the most rebounds Dukes has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Waring, who put up two points and five boards.

Cane Bay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Cane Bay's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-6. As for Sumter, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-13.

Cane Bay has already played their next game, a 60-51 loss against James Island on the 22nd. Sumter does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
