The Adams City Eagles fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 56-45 victory over Aurora Central on Monday. That's another feather in the cap for Adams City, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Adams City got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Morgan Williams out in front who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. Williams is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Fernanda Hernandez, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, ten rebounds, and 12 steals.
Aurora Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamaea Johnson Gonzalez, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Johnson Gonzalez has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayna McClain, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Adams City has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-8 record this season. As for Aurora Central, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-8.
Adams City will be playing in front of their home fans against Thornton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Thornton is ranked 251st, while Adams City is ranked 255th). Aurora Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hinkley at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Hinkley comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 21 points in their last ten games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
