Caruthersville has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Malden Green Wave at 4:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Monday, Caruthersville was beaten by Cairo 85-30. Caruthersville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-19.
Malden has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 72-37 to Portageville, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. While losing is never fun, Malden can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Portageville is ranked 93rd).
Caruthersville bumped their record down to 0-6 with that loss, which was their 12th straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.0 points per game. As for Malden, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
Caruthersville was taken down by Malden 66-11 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Caruthersville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
