Waverly had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Leslie Blackhawks. This was payback for the Warriors, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Nevaeh Larner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Larner was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.
In other batting news, Sydney Sutton was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Five bases. while going 2-for-4. Daniela Anzaldua was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
Waverly will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Jackson at 11:00 a.m. on April 5th. Leslie also won't see the field for a while: their next game is against Charlotte at 4:00 p.m. on April 1st.
