The Kirkwood Cobras will take on the Clarksville Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Kirkwood will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Kirkwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Northeast on Thursday. The Cobras have beaten the Eagles the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Eagles has come to flipping the script.
Maddie Ratcliff made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Ratcliff was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Kirkwood got a massive performance out of Kiara Conley, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Moana Tuuaga was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Kirkwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Clarksville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past Montgomery Central 6-5. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Kalea Masigat and Johanna Williams dominated on the mound. Masigat tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits, while Williams tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Williams has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on MacKenzie White, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Windham, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Kirkwood's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Clarksville, their record is now 13-8.
