The Russell Red Devils will take on the East Carter Raiders at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Russell has four straight wins, East Carter has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Russell lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Rowan County, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Red Devils never let the Vikings get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Friday. Considering the Red Devils have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacob Toliver made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayden Frasure, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles he has posted over his last 12 games. Noah Finch was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.
Russell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Breathitt County hit East Carter with a four-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders fell just short of the Bobcats by a score of 7-6.
Russell's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for East Carter, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Russell came out on top in a nail-biter against East Carter in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 7-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
