O'Neill is 8-1 against the Pirates since February of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the O'Neill Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Plainview Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. Plainview took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on O'Neill, who comes in off a win.
O'Neill scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They claimed a resounding 69-42 win over Creighton on the road.
O'Neill's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Ashley Sidak, who scored 17 points along with four steals, and Hannah Hilker, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Bergyn Classen, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Plainview unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 51-41 to Wynot. Plainview has not had much luck with the Blue Devils recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Plainview's defeat came about despite a quality game from Teya Boyer, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Kromarek, who scored nine points.
O'Neill's win ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 8-13. As for Plainview, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: O'Neill have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Plainview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
O'Neill was able to grind out a solid victory over the Pirates in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 48-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for O'Neill since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
