De Soto hasn't had much luck against Seneca recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Pirates will venture away from home to challenge the Indians at 5:00 p.m. De Soto's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Seneca's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
De Soto is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 10-4 to Royall. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Pirates, who until this match were averaging 3.8 runs allowed.
Griffin Hanson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. That run marked the first that he scored this season.
Meanwhile, Seneca got themselves on the board against Kickapoo on Monday, but Kickapoo never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 16-0 win. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.
Jackson Konichek and Briar Wall made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Konichek tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wall didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. At the plate, Konichek scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Wall went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Hunter Hagensick and Dawson Davidson did most of the damage at the plate: Hagensick scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3, while Davidson scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Gage Wall was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
The victory made it two in a row for Seneca and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for De Soto, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
De Soto couldn't quite get it done against Seneca when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
