The Whitman Vikings came tearing into Friday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Clarksburg 67-51. Given Whitman's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Coyotes are ranked 247th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Whitman was led to victory by Thomas Farrell and Hayden Walsh. Farrell scored 18 points, while Walsh went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists. Another player making a difference was Titian DeRosa, who scored eight points along with five assists and four steals.
Whitman is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Clarksburg, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whitman will take on the Bulldogs at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Churchill's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests. As for Clarksburg, they will be playing at home against the Jaguars at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Northwest is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
