Softball Recap: Montgomery Central Has No Trouble Against Gray Stone Day

Montgomery Central won the last time they faced Gray Stone Day and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Montgomery Central Timberwolves put the hurt on the Gray Stone Day Knights with a sharp 15-9 victory. The Timberwolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.

Annabelle Spivey was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Montgomery Central got a massive performance out of Kyndal Rush, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-5. That's the most stolen bases Rush has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Genesis Marin, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Montgomery Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Montgomery Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Gray Stone Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Montgomery Central will host Randleman at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gray Stone Day, they will look to defend their home field on March 12th against Mountain Island Charter at 6:00 p.m.
