Softball Recap: Rickards Has No Trouble Against Rutherford

Rickards's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They blew past the Rutherford Rams 16-1. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won three matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

Sheyenne Holmes made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arriana Wilson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Zamiah Palmer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Rickards always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Rickards pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11.33 hits in those games compared to only 5.33 in the others. As for Rutherford, their record is now 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rickards will head out to square off against Florida State University High School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Florida State University High School's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for Rutherford, they will face off against Rocky Bayou Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rutherford has given up an average of 15 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
