After a string of three wins, the East River Falcons's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were dealt a 83-49 loss at the hands of Horizon. East River found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post seven fewer assists than your opponent.
East River lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Yariana Lugo Perez, who scored 25 points. That was a full 51% of East River's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Keilani Serrano, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Horizon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Sofia Duque out in front who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 3 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Duque has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Corjay, who scored 17 points.
East River's defeat dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Horizon, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
East River will square off against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central Florida Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Falcons in Florida (the Eagles are ranked 31st, while the Falcons are ranked 172nd). As for Horizon, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
