Ironwood hasn't had much luck against Centennial recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Coyotes at 3:45 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ironwood's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Fairfax 11-0.
Alyssa Ridgley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Madelaine Gober was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Addison Monahan was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Centennial had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Mustangs as they made off with a 13-3 win.
Centennial got a massive performance out of Annalise Macias, who went 2-for-4 with seven RBI and one double. Those seven RBI gave Macias a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Serenity Anchondo, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Centennial hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in five consecutive matches.
Centennial pushed their record up to 10-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Ironwood, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ironwood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've averaged .537. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ironwood took their win against Centennial when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-7 score. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Coyotes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
