Two dominant signal callers in Bryce Duron and Lott Robison are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Angleton Wildcats will welcome the Crosby Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Angleton's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
On Friday, Angleton came up short against La Porte and fell 47-40. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Wildcats, who until this contest were averaging 13.11 points allowed.
Angleton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Wyatt Neyland, who rushed for 108 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, and Kaleb Jammer, who threw for 26 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 69 yards.
Even if they lost, Angleton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with 3.5 sacks. Caden Scott was especially locked on to La Porte's QB and sacked him twice. Angleton got some further help from Landon Miles: he made nine total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception.
Meanwhile, Crosby humbled Porter with a 49-14 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four matchups by 35 points or more so far this season.
Crosby's win came from a few key players Angleton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nehemiah Jordan, who picked up 157 receiving yards and four scores. That's the most receiving yards he has posted since back in September. Another back making a difference was Owen Morris, who rushed for 132 yards and one TD on only eight carries.
Crosby is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 14.2 points on average over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Angleton fell to 8-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game as Angleton and Crosby have no problem gaining yardage. The Wildcats have been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 478 total yards per game. However, it's not like Crosby struggles in that department as they've been averaging 360.7 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Angleton didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Crosby in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 13-8 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
