Baseball Recap: Mounds Wins Going Away Against Porter

Mounds won the last time they faced Porter and things went their way on Monday too. The Golden Eagles were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over the Pirates. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Golden Eagles have posted against the Pirates since April 26, 2018.

Dalton Nail was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Mounds' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Jathan Clay was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Blake Green, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.

Mounds kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory got Mounds back to even at 7-7. As for Porter, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.

Looking ahead, Mounds will venture away from home to face off against Drumright at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tornadoes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.71 runs per game on average), something the Golden Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Porter, they will face off against Hulbert at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Riders will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
