Modesto (Calif.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 28 points, drop to seven before the final whistle blew on a 28-21 victory over
Beyer (Modesto, Calif.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Tiki Tonga to
Lovell Collins in the first quarter, the Panthers were up 14-0 at the half.
Modesto expanded its lead to 19 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS scored two times in the third, including once on a Tonga touchdown pass to
Lesean Collins.
The loss snapped Beyer's four-game winning streak.
The defeat comes as a step back for Beyer, who notched a 37-13 victory over Gregori in its previous outing. The win brought Modesto's winning streak to four games.
Modesto (6-3) goes up against Johansen in a Modesto Metro Conference game matchup next week, while Beyer (6-3) locks horns with Downey also in a Modesto Metro Conference game.
