Ocracoke has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Bear Grass Charter Bears at 5:00 p.m. on February 9th. Ocracoke will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 592nd, while Bear Grass Charter is ranked 242nd).
Ocracoke scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They put the hurt on Washington Montessori with a sharp 35-14 win. The win was just what Ocracoke needed coming off of a 59-24 defeat in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Bear Grass Charter came tearing into Tuesday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.1 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 51-7 win over Mattamuskeet. Bear Grass Charter has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bear Grass Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carly Bembridge, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and two steals. Bembridge has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Hylee (Al) Jarrett was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with four steals.
Ocracoke's win ended a eight-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-14. As for Bear Grass Charter, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Ocracoke took a serious blow against Bear Grass Charter when the teams last played back in January, falling 65-9. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Ocracoke was down 27-4.
