The Maine Central Institute Huskies will venture away from home to challenge the St. Dominic Saints at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Maine Central Institute took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against North Yarmouth Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskies had just enough and edged out the Panthers 7-6 on Friday.
Maine Central Institute saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jyllian Riendeau, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That hit was Riendeau's first of the season.
Meanwhile, St. Dominic got the win against Sacopee Valley on Friday by a conclusive 15-1. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Emily Andrews and Madeline Andrews made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Andrews tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Madeline tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Emily has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Andrews went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Madeline went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Croteau, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Piper Croteau, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
St. Dominic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for St. Dominic and bumps their season record up to 5-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Maine Central Institute, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Maine Central Institute might still be hurting after the 17-5 defeat they got from St. Dominic in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Huskies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
