Even though the South Plaquemines Hurricanes have not done well against the Cohen Green Hornets recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. South Plaquemines sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 70-68 victory over Cohen. With that victory, South Plaquemines brought their scoring average up to 50.7 points per game.
South Plaquemines' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kyrin Davis led the charge by scoring 15 points along with nine steals and six assists. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Deanel McGee, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
South Plaquemines' win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.33 points across that stretch. As for Cohen, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
South Plaquemines will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on West Jefferson at 2:00 p.m. on December 28th. As for Cohen, they will head out on the road to face off against Sarah T. Reed at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Sarah T. Reed will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
