Westfield is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Rockwall is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Westfield Mustangs will take on the Rockwall Yellowjackets at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Westfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Rockwall likes a good challenge.
Westfield extended their postseason success on Friday against Klein Cain. They took down the Hurricanes 55-41. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
It was another big night for Taji Atkins, who rushed for 403 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 16.1 yards per carry. Atkins really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Miles Dent was another key contributor, rushing for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, even though Waxahachie scored an imposing 43 points on Saturday, Rockwall still came out on top. Rockwall had just enough and edged Waxahachie out 46-43. Given Rockwall's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Waxahachie is ranked 40th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ashten Emory continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 270 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. Emory hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Marshall, who rushed for 14 yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Westfield to 10-2 and Klein Cain to 8-4.
Westfield didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Rockwall in their previous meeting back in November of 2014, but they still walked away with a 43-38 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Rockwall's Xavier Castille, who picked up 134 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 92 yards. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be that much easier for Westfield to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
