The Nueva School Mavericks's five-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Thursday. They blew past Mountain View Academy 82-37 at home. Given The Nueva School's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 555th, while Mountain View Academy is ranked 1121st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
The Nueva School had a senior duo take command as Tammer Maraqa scored 25 points and Gabe Ciechanover scored 18 points. Another player making a difference was Diego Agustin, who scored seven points.
Despite the loss, Mountain View Academy had strong showings from Caleb Penaflorida, who scored 14 points, and Brennan Marques, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
The win got The Nueva School back to even at 1-1. As for Mountain View Academy, they bumped their record down to 1-1 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. The Nueva School will take on El Primero at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully El Primero focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Monday. As for Mountain View Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mid-Peninsula at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
