Baseball Recap: Edina Wins Going Away Against Minneapolis Southwest

Edina had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Minneapolis Southwest on Monday. The Hornets put the hurt on the Lakers with a sharp 12-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Hornets in their matchups with the Lakers: they've now won three in a row.

Reid LaFrenz made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other pitching news, Edina got a great performance from Will Grandberg as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Grandberg a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Bjorgaard, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lincoln Page, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Edina was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win got Edina back to even at 6-6-1. As for Minneapolis Southwest, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-3 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Edina will welcome St. Michael-Albertville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Hornets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Minneapolis Southwest, they will face off against Wayzata at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
