After flying high against the Perquimans Pirates on Monday, the Northeastern Eagles came back down to earth. Northeastern had to suffer through a rough 83-54 loss at the hands of Farmville Central. Northeastern has struggled against Farmville Central recently, as their matchup on Wednesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Sayvion Saunders and Jayden Alexander certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Saunders scored 17 points, while Alexander scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakeel Stallings, who scored six points.
Even though they lost, Northeastern were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Farmville Central only racked up 21 assists.
Farmville Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mykal "MJ" Williams out in front who scored 16 points along with nine assists and four steals. The match was Williams' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Whitehurst, who scored 22 points.
Northeastern's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. As for Farmville Central, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeastern will be home for the holidays to greet First Flight at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Farmville Central will be home for the holidays to greet SouthWest Edgecombe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. SouthWest Edgecombe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 262nd, while Farmville Central is ranked 15th).
